PhD Maria Åströms’ research interests are in assessment and decision-making instruments for student learning. Her thesis “Defining Integrated Science Education and Putting it to Test” were presented in 2008 with PISA2003 statistical data. Maria participated in government funded research project in 2013-2015 “Reliability in assessing master thesis in teacher education”, a research project in 2019-2022 about science teaching models in pre- and primary school (ÄMNOS). At present in 2024-2026 working with the research project LABBFYS, with secondary school teachers and laboratory practices in physics. An international project amongst the Nordic countries with description and comparison of organization and structure of final thesis work in teacher education that started 2021 will be published during spring 2025.
As a senior lecturer at Gothenburg university Maria Åström work with science education at primary teacher education, secondary teacher education and master level since 2017. Special interest in physics education, supervision and examination of students’ theses and practical work. Earlier academic positions besides teaching in secondary school have been physics student supervision, test construction in mathematics and science, doctoral studies and postdoctoral work at Linköping University.
